Having sharp lawn mower blades decreases the surface area of the cut by as much as four times. A shredded leaf blade or torn blade creates 4 times more water to escape from the plant by evapo-transpiration causing wilt and potentially death to the grass plant. By having sharp blades especially during July and August will greatly reduces the risk of wilt.
How long for seed to take?
It all depends on soil temperatures. The warmer the soil with proper watering the sooner the seed will emerge. Usually within 7-10 days.Cooler temps and less watering could take weeks.
How long for aeration cores to go away?
2-3 weeks the will break down and actually provide micronutrients to the grass plants. When is the best time to seed and Why?
Fall is the best time between august 15th and October 1st.The reason is because the seedlings won’t have to compete with weeds that would be emerging/thriving if the seeding process took place in the spring or summer.
Another reason is you have a better chance for the seed beds to not wash away.
In the spring, Minnesota usually has frequent heavy rainfall vs. the fall when the climate favors longer and light rainfall periods that tend to be a more of a “soaking,” which is perfect for seeding a new yard or if you are just over-seeding.
The final reason and very import is that you absolutely cannot us a Pre-emergent crabgrass control in the spring if you intend to seed your yard in the spring or summer.
If case you don’t know, Crabgrass multiplies at a very rapid pace. It can easily take over a sparse seedbed in almost no time. Since the seedlings generally are small you really can’t apply anything to the crabgrass to control it without killing your new grass.
Crabgrass control not only controls and kills crabgrass seeds it also kills any variety of bluegrass seed.
When is the best time to prune ornamental trees?
Late fall or over the winter months when the trees are dormant. The reason is because there are no insects or active diseases to cause any harm when the tree would be vulnerable with fresh cut wood. This will allow the tree in spring to “Callus over” the open cuts to keep insects and disease from entering.
What is the difference The Greener Blade and
an Organic Fertilizer Company?
Organic companies use a fertilizer that is derived usually from animal waste. Typically it is derived from chicken or Turkey waste. Sometimes human waste such as a product called Milorganite. The downfalls of an organic fertilizer are: It costs more to make the fertilizer therefore it is more expensive to the customer
All organic fertilizer is a “Quick Release” Fertilizer meaning it is available to the plant for up to7 days and then its gone. A “quick release” fertilizer breaks down immediately once it is “watered in.” The grass will react to the organic fertilizer immediately since it is a “quick release” fertilizer causing a short-term rapid growth of the plant and then it quickly plateau’s downward for the rest of the month losing desired color and density.
The organic herbicides are proven to not work especially on spurge and creeping Charlie. Ask yourself “How can something organic kill a weed as persistent as Creeping Charlie?”
Greener blade:
We use a synthetic Phosphorus free fertilizer that is coated with sulfur to allow slow release of the nutrients to the plant allowing the granules to break down over a course of time to continually feed the plant throughout the month until the next visit. This sort of process is called “spoon feeding” the plant continuously keeping desired color and density throughout the summer.
Our herbicides are proven to work. We use the highest and safest products on the market to ensure quality and safety.
The difference between The Greener Blade and TruGreenBetter customer service. You communicate directly with the owner regarding your lawn
TruGreen uses a liquid fertilizer that is combined with their herbicide to take care of their yards.
What this means:
First of all, all liquid fertilizers are “quick release” therefore the fertilizer will only be feeding the plant for up to the first 7 days. Not only does it not last long but is incredibly cheap and poor quality.
Secondly,
Since TruGreen combines their cheap liquid herbicide with their cheap liquid fertilizer and the safety to you and the environment is compromised. Since they have to fertilize the whole yard by spraying it, they also have no option but to spray your whole lawn with herbicide even if you have no or little weeds!
The Greener Blade applies fertilizer and Herbicide by the safest method possible
We only spray where weeds are present which is called “spot spraying” This method is a lot safer and environmentally friendly.
We use a fertilizer that is of the highest quality and is coated with sulfur to provide a “Slow Release” allowing your lawn to receive nutrients the entire time until the next monthly visit. This process keeps your lawn continuously looking beautiful all summer.
